"Recent Advances in Surface Engineering by Dielectric Barrier Discharges at Atmospheric Pressure" Abstract Atmospheric pressure non-equilibrium plasma technologies have received enormous attention in surface processing in the last two decades. They have opened new opportunities to tailor the surface properties of materials as well as to prepare a variety of thin films with different chemical compositions, structures and morphologies. In this context, dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) have played a major role due to their simple design, ease of generation, scalability to large area substrates. A plethora of DBD-based apparatuses and processes has been therefore devised to meet the ever-increasing demand for atmospheric pressure plasma technologies in various surface engineering applications. In this presentation, an overview of our recent progress in the surface modification of materials using DBDs will be presented with particular focus on process optimization as well as on potential applications. The presented examples will include the deposition of hybrid organic/inorganic nanocomposite coatings...
